Im a cheerleader and i can pretty much do a backhandspring. The problem is i can never practice at home or at cheer, only at the gym. So i want a mat that will suit me well for both tumbling and cheer.
sting mats are not what you want to learn handsprings! They are used to soften the landing on vault or bars for gymnasts, the are not thick or hard enough to protect you from the hard ground if you land

i have my back hand spring but scsred to throw it on the carpet. My parents don't want to spend that much money so i need help.
They are really expensive. So see if you can find one on ebay.com or creigslist.com
but if you cant then you can use an old mattress.

Speak of the magic-making love I have felt this and other Christmas mornings. I believe that love and manifestations of it can come from many sources. Because gymnastics is a sport that primarily is enjoyed by young people, it’s of no real surprise that safety is rule number one. Young gymnasts are often plagued by injuries due to the risky nature of the sport, and the constant impact damage to the arms, legs, feet, and back can cause a lifetime of physical suffering and total removal from the sport, regardless of how much the child may enjoy it. This is why it’s so important for gymnasiums to have mats with a high make up of energy absorbing material.
The quality of the gymnastic mats is of top concern because gymnasts spend so much time training, which increases the possibility of injury. With the addition of proper gymnastic mats made of proper energy absorbing material, however, injuries to the gymnast can be lessened, if not eliminated completely.
